Ag Finance Specialists Pty Ltd was established in 2015 by Donald Matheson, who is the company’s sole Director and Secretary. The business was founded to provide practical, relationship-based finance advice to agribusiness and commercial clients.

Founded on Agribusiness Experience

Donald brings more than 35 years of experience in agribusiness and commercial finance. Throughout his career, he has worked across the Riverina and regional New South Wales, including Wagga Wagga, Griffith, Hillston, Lake Cargelligo and Broken Hill, along with several other regional communities.

He has been actively involved in agribusiness finance in the Riverina since 1991 and has lived in Griffith with his family since 1997, maintaining strong local and industry connections.

Deep Industry Knowledge

Donald has extensive hands-on knowledge across a wide range of agricultural sectors, including:

  • Broadacre irrigation
  • Intensive horticulture
  • Cotton and cropping enterprises
  • Cattle and sheep production
  • Dryland farming operations

This practical understanding allows him to assess finance needs in the context of real on-farm operations and seasonal pressures.

Senior Banking & Commercial Expertise

In addition to agribusiness, Donald has strong commercial finance experience across retail, wholesale, manufacturing and hospitality sectors.

During his banking career, he held several senior roles, including Regional Manager for Southern New South Wales, where he was responsible for managing more than 40 staff. He also served as a Senior Account Manager supporting clients with borrowings exceeding $10 million.

His combined agricultural and commercial background enables him to structure finance solutions that are both practical and strategic.

A strong connection to regional communities and people on the land led Donald to establish Ag Finance Specialists — providing independent advice and ongoing support to clients who need experienced guidance managing and structuring their finances.

  • Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking
  • Member — Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA)
  • Holder of an Australian Credit Licence
